A conjoined double snuff bottle of flattened rounded rectangular form constructed from opaque milk-white glass. The object is decorated in the falangcai style using dense famille rose enamels. The larger bottle features a coral-red ground with a continuous pattern of scrolling lotus vines and stylized foliate motifs. The smaller bottle features a cobalt-blue ground with similar scrolling lotus decoration. Both bottles are finished with a ruyi-head border at the shoulder and a scrolled pattern around the neck. The smaller bottle is uniquely fashioned with an integral base molded and coloured to simulate a dark wood stand with scroll feet. The larger bottle is fitted with a red glass or hardstone stopper and the smaller bottle has an amber-toned glass or hardstone stopper both set on black collars. The base of the larger bottle contains a four-character blue enamel reign mark arranged horizontally reading 乾隆年製 (Qianlong nian zhi) which translates to Made in the reign of Qianlong.
H: Approximately 7.5cm
Condition report:
The bottle is in good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. The red stopper on the larger bottle shows significant internal crazing and fracturing. The enamelling remains largely vibrant with only minor instances of rubbing or loss.
