An Ottoman Illuminated Astrological and Talismanic Scroll, 19th Century.
An Ottoman handwritten paper scroll finely illustrated with vibrant geometric, talismanic and astrological diagrams, presented within alternating panels of dense black, red, blue and green script. The scroll features circular zodiac wheels, numerical magic squares, and multicoloured orbital charts, each outlined in warm tones of red, yellow, and green. Several bands of bold kufic-style calligraphy appear throughout, contrasted by delicate black cursive inscriptions running along the margins. Multiple sections display radiating floral medallions painted in rich blues, greens, reds and gold, with intricate leaf motifs arranged symmetrically around central circles. Additional panels show coloured registers of numbers, crescent-shaped symbols, and repeated talismanic signs in red and green. The top and bottom ends each carry ornate Ottoman-style illuminated cartouches decorated in blue, gold, red and green, with the scroll retaining its original reddish-brown outer wrapping layer.
