An Ottoman Illuminated Genealogical Scroll, 19th Century.
An Ottoman scroll featuring a sequence of colourful, hand-painted panels arranged vertically across the surface. The opening section displays a bold square panel with geometric calligraphy in black, white, grey, and blue, framed by floral motifs in red and gold, flanked on both sides by tall pink flowers set within decorative vases. Below it rests a blue arched panel with an orange cartouche carrying stylised script. Further down, multiple circular medallions appear in alternating colours of blue, green, red, and gold, each filled with neatly written inscriptions. The circles are connected by fine linear branches, forming an intricate diagram that spans the entire scroll. Additional marginal inscriptions in black and red are arranged diagonally and vertically between the medallions. The lower sections include star-shaped medallions filled with calligraphic text, bordered by repeated circular names written in green and red. Decorative floral panels in turquoise, red, and gold sit above and below the larger medallions. The final panel displays a central starburst filled with elegant script, surrounded by four corner cartouches in blue.
