A Fatimid Qur’anic Manuscript Leaf, Egypt or North Africa, 12th–13th Century.
A single Qur’anic manuscript leaf from the late Fatimid period, Egypt or North Africa, dating to the 12th–13th century, written on both recto and verso.
The Arabic text is executed in a refined and spacious naskh script in black ink, with red diacritical and recitation marks carefully added throughout. Verse divisions are indicated by small polychrome rosettes in gold and colour. The margins are enriched with illuminated medallions and elongated ornamental devices in gold and blue, characteristic of Fatimid manuscript illumination.
