A Printed Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt with Hand-Painted Gold Illumination, Dated 1314 AH (1896–97 AD), Calligrapher Osman known as Qayshzada.

A finely printed and hand-illuminated copy of Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt, dated 1314 AH (1896–97 AD), attributed to the calligrapher Osman, known as Qayshzada.

Bound in a brown leather binding with central stamped medallion and corner devices, the volume opens to an ornate printed title page framed within an elaborate black ornamental border. The text throughout is printed in a clear naskh script, with headings and section markers carefully arranged within ruled frames.

The work is enhanced with hand-applied gold and polychrome illumination. Several pages feature richly painted architectural and devotional scenes, including depictions of the Holy Sanctuaries rendered in vivid blues, reds, and gold. Illuminated double-page spreads incorporate dense vegetal ornament in cobalt blue and burnished gold, with central roundels containing Qur’anic or devotional inscriptions. Surah headings and section divisions are framed within decorative cartouches, some heightened with gold.

Approximately 18.7 x 12.8cm

Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished W London collector.
