A small-scale fire-gilded copper alloy sculpture depicting the wrathful Buddhist deity Hevajra in sexual union (yab-yum) with his consort. Both figures are depicted with three heads and multiple arms, wearing crowns of five skulls and beaded jewellery. The deity’s hair is swept into a high, flaming topknot retaining significant traces of original red pigment, likely cinnabar. The figures are positioned in an active alidhasana pose atop a single-row lotus pedestal with a beaded upper border. The reverse of the bronze shows the figures wearing tiger-skin loincloths. The base is ritually sealed with a copper-alloy plate incised with a double vajra (vishvavajra) symbol radiating from a central floral motif.

H: Approximately 8.5cm

Condition report:

The figure shows age-related wear to the exterior. There is significant rubbing and loss to the gilding on the higher points and the reverse of the sculpture, revealing the darker bronze substrate beneath. The majority of the ritual attributes originally held in the multiple hands are now missing. Traces of original red pigment are visible in the hair and on the crowns. The base plate remains intact but shows signs of oxidation and surface wear.
