A Japanese articulated bronze model of a longhorn beetle, known as a kamikiri, produced during the late Meiji period. This jizai okimono is realistically cast with a segmented body and finished with a dark chocolate-brown chemical patina. The figure features complex articulation in the legs and the exceptionally long, multi-jointed antennae, allowing for lifelike positioning. The head and thorax are rendered with detailed surface texturing. Located on the underside of the thorax is a recessed rectangular seal mark containing the two characters for Myochin (明珍), the celebrated family of armorers and metalworkers known for their technical skill in creating articulated figures.
L: Approximately 13cm
Condition report:
The figure is in good overall condition with all articulated joints remaining functional. The bronze patina is well-preserved, exhibiting only minor surface wear and rubbing to the high points and extremities consistent with its age and handling. There is a light accumulation of dust and minor oxidation within the deeper crevices of the joints and thorax. No visible repairs, breaks, or missing segments were identified.
