Lot 376: A LARGE JAPANESE BRONZE MODEL OF A CRAB.
A Japanese patinated bronze okimono model of a crab, naturalistically rendered in a life-like pose. The casting is detailed, capturing the characteristic textures of the carapace and the segments of the limbs and pincers. The sculpture is finished with a dark brown multi-toned patina. To the underside of the body, on the central plastron, is a small recessed square seal mark containing two Japanese characters.
L: Approximately 16cm
Condition report:
The bronze is in overall good condition with a well-preserved patina throughout. There are small, localised areas of green verdigris oxidation within the deeper recesses around the joints, eyes, and claws. Surface wear is consistent with age and handling. There are no visible signs of missing parts, fractures, or repairs.
