Lot 350: A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN DRAGON STEM CUP, XUANDE MARK.
A Chinese blue and white porcelain stem cup of lobed form, decorated in the Ming style. The flared bowl is constructed with ten vertical lobes, five of which are decorated in underglaze blue with panels depicting upright dragons amidst stylized clouds. Each dragon is enclosed within a pointed, mandorla-shaped frame. The bowl is supported by a tall, vertically fluted stem finished with two horizontal blue lines above a flat, unglazed foot rim. The interior of the bowl is plain white with a single blue line following the lobed rim. The centre of the well contains a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue arranged in two vertical columns within a double-circle border. The mark reads Da Ming Xuan De Nian Zhi which translates to Great Ming Xuande Period Made. While the decoration and mark reference the Xuande reign (1426–1435), this item is a later production in that style and the mark is apocryphal.
H: Approximately 11.8cm
D: Approximately 117cm
Condition report:
The piece exhibits several minor firing flaws, including small iron spots and pitting in the glaze, consistent with traditional kiln production. There is a fine hairline crack visible extending approximately 1 to 2cm from the rim into the body of the bowl. Light surface wear is present, commensurate with age.
