An Indian miniature painting executed in gouache and ink on paper, depicting two intertwined serpents set against a plain light-brown ground. The composition features a yellow snake with red horizontal bands and a green snake, both shown in profile with open mouths, visible fangs, and forked tongues. The bodies of both reptiles are decorated with a repetitive pattern of small yellow circles representing scales. The work is rendered in a traditional folk style characterized by bold outlines, flat perspective, and stylized zoomorphic forms. The painting is mounted within an off-white mat and housed in a light-coloured wooden frame under glazing.
Approximately 27.2 x 22cm
Condition report:
The painting appears to be in good condition. The paper ground exhibits natural tonal variations and slight undulations consistent with the material (photo 1). A small horizontal crease or fold line is visible in the upper right quadrant of the paper (photo 1). The pigments remain vibrant with no significant loss or flaking observed. The contemporary wooden frame and glazing are intact with no visible damage.
