This stone vessel is carved in the style of ancient Egyptian stoneware from the Predynastic or Early Dynastic periods, circa 4th to 3rd Millennium BC. The jar is fashioned from a mottled hardstone, which is characterised by a dense pattern of black and white mineral inclusions. The form features a bulbous, ovoid body that tapers to a small, flat base. The short neck flares into a wide, flat, projecting disc-shaped rim. The surface has been hand-carved and polished to a smooth finish.
