This North Indian miniature painting is executed in gouache and gold on paper and is mounted on a black card. The composition is arranged in two distinct horizontal registers. The upper section depicts a female figure seated within a domed pavilion, flanked by three musicians playing drums and a horn, and a central gateway featuring a sun-like emblem. The lower section portrays a group of seven men gathered around a central sacred fire situated near a lotus pond with blooming pink flowers. One figure on the right wears an elaborate white and gold headdress. The figures are rendered in traditional profile views, dressed in vibrant robes of yellow, red, grey, and green. The background consists of a green landscape with stylised trees and a decorative sky with birds. A broad blue painted border surrounds the central image. The verso features a horizontal paper strip with several lines of handwritten script, likely in a North Indian dialect such as Devanagari.

Approximately 40 x 40cm

Condition report:

The artwork is in fair to poor condition. The black mounting card exhibits significant wear, including jagged edges, creases, and losses at the corners. The painting itself shows surface wear, minor staining, and discolouration, particularly along the upper edge. There is light foxing and some pigment loss consistent with age.
