Lot 187: A CHINESE CARVED JADE DOUBLE-DRAGON RITUAL HUANG PENDANT.
A Chinese ritual arc-shaped pendant, known as a huang, carved from nephrite jade. The stone displays a range of tones from pale celadon-green to greyish-white, featuring significant areas of russet skin and brownish-orange staining, particularly concentrated at one end. Areas of pale opacity, indicative of calcification, are visible across the surface. The crescent-shaped body is worked in low relief on both sides with stylised cloud-scroll or comma patterns within a narrow border. The pendant terminates at each end with a dragon head depicted with an open mouth, scrolling features, and a swept-back crest. The upper and lower edges are embellished with intricate pierced openwork scrolling motifs, including a central suspension point at the apex.
L: Approximately 8.2cm
Condition report:
The piece is in good overall condition. The surface shows natural russet inclusions and areas of calcification. There is minor surface wear and very slight abrasion to the edges of the openwork decoration, consistent with the archaistic style and age. No significant fractures or repairs are visible.
