A Chinese Polychrome Enamel Snuff Bottle with Scholar and Attendant Scenes.
The snuff bottle is of flattened rectangular form with gently rounded shoulders, rising to a short cylindrical neck fitted with a metal-mounted stopper and spoon. Each main face is finely decorated in vivid polychrome enamels depicting tranquil scholarly scenes: on one side, an elderly scholar and a youthful attendant seated beneath bamboo, observing geese in a garden setting; on the reverse, a complementary scene of the scholar reclining with a book while the attendant tends to him beside a rocky landscape and flowing water. The narrow sides are enriched with scrolling floral motifs on a bright yellow ground, framing the narrative panels. The base bears a recessed panel with a blue four-character mark.
