A Chinese Carved Hardwood and Lacquered Square Occasional Table with Dragon Panel, Early 20th Century.
A finely carved Chinese hardwood occasional table of square form, raised on four shaped cabriole legs terminating in rounded feet and joined by a stylised openwork undertier. The frieze is deeply carved in relief with abundant grape clusters and scrolling vine leaves, highlighted with traces of red pigment against the dark stained ground.
The square top features a central lacquered panel decorated with a coiled dragon amidst scrolling clouds, enclosed within a key-fret (leiwen) border. The corners are gently moulded, and the apron is edged with carved detailing that complements the richly worked frieze.
