A Large Islamic Calligraphic and Architectural Composition Depicting the Sacred Precinct, 20th Century.
A large and richly detailed Islamic calligraphic composition, executed in ink and colour on paper, centring on an architectural depiction of a fortified sacred complex set within a mountainous landscape. The central scene shows a walled sanctuary with domed and arcaded structures, enclosed within geometric battlements and surrounded by stylised hills and palm trees.
The architectural image is framed by multiple registers of finely executed Arabic calligraphy in black and red ink. The outer borders contain continuous Qur’anic inscriptions written in bold red script, while the inner panels feature alternating cartouches and triangular calligraphic fields. At the top, a decorative arched panel filled with floral ornamentation and deep blue ground provides a visual focal point above the main scene.
Approximately 81 x 58.5cm
Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished British gentleman.
