An Islamic Zodiac and Astrological Diagram on Cloth, 19th-20th Century.
A large and highly intricate Islamic astrological diagram executed in ink and colour on cloth, centred around a circular zodiac wheel. The composition is dominated by concentric bands divided into finely ruled segments filled with Arabic inscriptions, numerical notations, and calendrical or astronomical references.
At the centre, a vividly painted roundel depicts the twelve zodiac signs rendered as animated human and animal figures arranged radially around a central axis. Surrounding this is a dense network of segmented rings inscribed with script, forming a structured cosmological chart.
The upper section features a rectangular calligraphic panel framed by ornamental motifs in blue and red, while the lower register contains a bold triangular cartouche filled with flowing Arabic script. The entire composition is enclosed within a decorative border of scrolling vegetal designs in deep blue against a buff-toned ground.
Approximately 78.6 x 53cm (incl. frame)
Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished British gentleman.
