A Qajar Brass Kashkul with Figural and Calligraphic Decoration.
Of oval form with a wide circular mouth, the brass body is densely engraved throughout with figural scenes set against a finely worked ground. The upper register features a continuous band of flowing Persian calligraphy, bordered by scrolling vegetal motifs. The main body is decorated with animated figures, birds, and animals arranged in narrative groupings, including musicians and attendants rendered in a lively, stylised manner. The vessel is fitted with two pierced side handles for suspension, each attached to looped mounts.
