An Islamic Brass Astrolabe with Pierced Rete and Multiple Engraved Plates.
An Islamic brass astrolabe comprising a circular body with suspension loop, fitted with a finely pierced rete decorated with stylised foliate and geometric motifs. The instrument retains multiple engraved plates (tympans), each densely incised with concentric scales, latitude grids, and Arabic inscriptions. The reverse is engraved with radiating astronomical diagrams, numerical divisions, and further Arabic script, centred by a pivot point for the alidade.
