A Mamluk Qur’anic Manuscript Leaf, Probably Egypt, 13th Century.
A single Qur’anic manuscript leaf from the Mamluk period, probably Egypt, 13th century, written on both recto and verso.
The Arabic text is executed in a clear and elegant naskh script in brown ink, with red diacritical and recitation marks. Verse divisions are indicated by small gilded rosettes, while the margins are adorned with finely illuminated medallions and triangular decorative devices in gold with blue detailing, characteristic of early Mamluk manuscript ornament.
