A Set of Four Islamic Red Glazed Chess Pieces, King or Queen & Pawn or Rook, 19th Century.
A group of four Islamic chess pieces carved in red glaze, comprising a larger domed king or queen and three smaller pieces likely representing a pawn and rook types. Each piece is of rounded, architectural form with flattened bases and gently tapering profiles. The surfaces are decorated in low relief with scrolling vegetal motifs, stylised foliage, and geometric ornament, arranged in balanced compositions across both front and reverse.
One example features a recessed arched panel enclosing a carved figural or heraldic motif, while others display symmetrical arabesque designs and ribbed detailing.
