An Islamic Carved Stone Chess Set Comprising a King, Knight, Rook and Pawn, 20th Century.
A group of four Islamic chess pieces carved from a striated grey stone, comprising a king, knight, rook and pawn. The king of domed form with a rounded knop finial, encircled by horizontal bands of incised roundels. The rook of rectangular profile with a raised frontal arch and central knop, decorated with circular and cross-like motifs. The knight carved in stylised abstract form with a gently tapering body and simplified head. The pawn of smaller domed shape with similar banded decoration and incised roundels.
