Carved from pale-toned horn, this compact Chinese figure depicts a recumbent mythical beast resting on its side, with the head turned slightly forward. The surface is finely worked with an overall cross-hatched texture, covering the body, limbs, and head, creating a consistent patterned appearance. The eyes are inlaid or stained with a red accent, giving a strong visual contrast against the lighter horn. The beast’s limbs are tucked beneath the body, with a curled tail following the contour of the back.
