A Pair of Near Eastern Glazed Ceramic Gaming Pieces, Possibly Early Medieval Period 10th–12th Century.
A lot of two small glazed ceramic chess pieces, each modelled as a robed standing figure. Both pieces display a rich blue glaze—one in a lighter turquoise tone with areas of earthen encrustation, the other in a deeper cobalt-blue shade with visible surface wear. Each figure is shown holding an attribute across the chest, with stylised facial features and draped garments indicated by incised and moulded detailing. The backs are plain and smoothly finished.
H: Approximately 7.5cm
Provenance: From a distinguished European private collection.
