A Spanish Kufic Inscribed Wood Panel, 11th–12th Century.
A long, rectangular wooden beam intricately carved in shallow relief with a continuous Kufic inscription, flanked by foliate scrollwork and vegetal forms. The Arabic script, rendered in bold angular forms, runs along the length of the piece. This type of panel would have adorned buildings in Al-Andalus, serving both decorative and religious functions in a mosque, madrasa, or palace.
