A Khorasan Copper-Inlaid Bronze Ewer with Figural Handle, 12th Century.
The ewer is of pear-shaped form, rising from a spreading foot to a narrow neck and an elegantly curved spout. The handle terminates in a sculptural bird-form finial, while the surface is intricately engraved and inlaid with copper. The decoration includes Kufic inscriptions, arabesque scrolls, and medallions enclosing vegetal patterns. Teardrop cartouches adorn the shoulder, and a band of script encircles the foot. The spout bears geometric motifs inlaid with copper.
