A Thailand Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang Featuring a Barking Deer, circa 1800–1850.
A rare AV kupang (0.58g, 10mm), struck in the Patani-Kelantan region of Thailand during the early 19th century (circa 1800–1850). The obverse depicts the iconic Malaysian barking deer (Kijang) standing left, surrounded by a dotted border. The reverse features an Arabic inscription reading "al-‘Adil" (The Just), also framed within a dotted border. A charming piece of Southeast Asian Islamic numismatic heritage.
