A Western Zhou Dynasty Jade Pendant in the Form of a Phoenix, circa 1045–771 BCE.
Carved from a soft green jade with subtle cloudy inclusions, this pendant is shaped in the stylised form of a phoenix. The reverse features twin suspension holes, while the front displays a delicately incised avian motif with an arched beak and flowing tail feathers curling upward. The design reflects the early Zhou period’s abstract and symbolic representation of sacred animals, especially birds associated with auspicious omens.
