An Ottoman Talismanic Shirt with Qur’anic Inscriptions, 20th Century.
A finely decorated Ottoman talismanic shirt, meticulously inscribed on both sides with dense Qur’anic text, magic squares, and protective invocations. The front features large rectangular panels filled with multicoloured calligraphy, including bold blue and red script, arranged within geometric frames. Additional panels display smaller inscriptions, stylised thuluth calligraphy, and decorative cartouches. The reverse presents an elaborate central lozenge containing concentric Qur’anic verses surrounded by tightly arranged talismanic grids in green, red, and black ink. Borders on all sides incorporate continuous script bands and geometric motifs, with further protective squares positioned at the shoulders and sides.
