A Collection of Post-Sasanian Tabaristan Governors’ Silver Half Dirhams, c. 710–820 AD.
A refined group of eleven post-Sasanian silver half dirhams from Tabaristan, each displaying the characteristic compact fabric, crowned bust, and stylised reverse typical of the local governors’ issues. The obverses feature the frontal or three-quarter Sasanian-inspired portrait framed within a beaded circle, while the reverses show the traditional dual-figure fire altar motif, adapted into the regional post-Sasanian style after the Arab administration took control.
Each Dirham weighs approx. 2g
Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished Danish collector.
