A Khorassan Style Pierced Bronze Feline-Form Incense Burner.
A cast bronze incense burner modelled in the form of a standing feline, the body robust and powerfully rendered with a raised head and arched tail pierced with star-shaped apertures. The surface is richly decorated with geometric and lozenge panels, each similarly pierced, allowing fragrant smoke to escape through the patterned openings. The animal’s muscular torso is supported on four sturdy legs, each detailed with incised borders and pierced motifs to match the body. The hinged head lifts to reveal the interior chamber for incense placement, the neck encircled by bands of engraved ornament.
