An Iranian Ilkhanate Qur’anic Manuscript Leaf with Interlinear Persian Translation, 14th Century.
A single Qur’anic manuscript leaf from the Iranian Ilkhanate period, 14th century, written on both recto and verso.
The Arabic text is executed in a confident and well-proportioned naskh script in black ink, with an interlinear Persian translation rendered in red ink between the lines. This bilingual format reflects the scholarly practice of Ilkhanid Iran, where Persian explanations were incorporated to aid comprehension of the sacred Arabic text.
Verse divisions are marked with small illuminated rosettes, and the margins feature gold and polychrome medallions, including triangular illuminated devices characteristic of Ilkhanate manuscript ornament. The layout is carefully structured, with harmonious spacing between the Arabic lines and the red Persian gloss.
