Lot 379: A JAPANESE BRONZE FIGURE OF A CARICATURED BULLDOG.
This cast bronze sculpture depicts a highly stylised bulldog in a playful, caricatured manner. The figure is characterised by exaggeratedly large, rounded jowls, a studded collar with a suspended spherical bell, and oversized paws with defined claws. The piece is finished with a rich dark brown patina. On the underside of the belly, there is an incised rectangular mark containing three vertically aligned characters in Japanese script, which are not clearly legible. The figure is freestanding on its four feet.
L: Approximately 8.3cm
Condition report:
The bronze is in good overall condition with no visible cracks, chips, or repairs. There is minor surface wear and rubbing to the patina on the higher points and extremities, including the jowls and tail, consistent with handling and age.
