Lot 183: A CHINESE CARVED PALE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE CHILONG PLAQUE.
A Chinese carved jade plaque or ornament, possibly intended as a garment fitting, fashioned from nephrite jade of a pale celadon-green tone. The stone features a prominent area of natural russet colouration at one terminal, likely derived from the skin of the original jade boulder. The upper surface is carved in high relief with an archaistic chilong, a mythical hornless dragon, depicted with a sinuous body, powerful limbs, and a bifurcated scrolling tail. The dragon is rendered crawling across the curved surface towards a circular ring terminal. The underside of the piece is flat and has been smoothly polished.
L: Approximately 12.5cm
Condition report:
The item appears to be in good overall condition. There are natural internal fissures and surface inclusions characteristic of the jade material. Minor surface wear, including tiny pits and light abrasions, is visible under magnification, which is typical for a piece of this age. No evidence of cracks, chips, or restoration was observed.
