A porcelain ewer featuring a lobed melon-shaped body divided by vertical ribs and decorated with triple incised horizontal bands. It possesses a tall neck with a flared rim and a long, upward-curving spout. Opposite the spout is a curved strap handle with a small loop at the crest, which would have originally served to tether a lid. The piece is covered in a pale bluish-green qingbai glaze exhibiting a fine network of crackle throughout. The underside reveals a wide unglazed foot rim and a recessed base area with a coarse, buff-to-reddish-brown clay body showing circular wiping marks and kiln grit.

Provenance: Acquired in Beijing from an established antique dealer Teh Pao Chai Curio Shop, circa 1928.

Shipped shortly thereafter to Tokyo, Japan, where it entered a Japanese private collection.

Transported to New York around 190 and exhibited in art galleries specialising in Chinese works of art.

Said to have been included in the International Exhibition of Chinese Art helf by the Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Condition report:

The original lid is absent. The glaze shows a uniform fine crackle. The unglazed base and foot rim exhibit expected coarseness, minor surface wear, and oxidation consistent with traditional kiln firing. No major chips, cracks, or restorations are visible from the provided images.
