A minimalist line drawing in black ink on toned, brown-coloured wove paper by the Indian artist Jogen Chowdhury (born 1939). The work depicts a stylized male figure in profile facing left, rendered with the artist’s characteristic fluid, undulating line. The figure features a prominent hooked nose, a large expressive eye, and a long, thick braid of hair that curves over the shoulder and terminates in a decorative cross or floral-like motif on the chest. The composition utilizes negative space to define the form, a hallmark of the artist’s mature style. The work contains several inscriptions in Bengali script and numerals. In the upper left corner is the Bengali letter যো (yo). The upper right corner is inscribed with the Bengali numerals ২০০৮ (2008). Condition report:
The paper shows light surface toning and minor rippling consistent with its age and mounting. A few faint handling creases are visible to the paper surface (photo 1). The frame exhibits minor shelf wear and light scuffing to the edges (photo 1). The work appears to be in overall good condition.
