A horizontal painting in watercolour on stretched canvas by Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi (Pakistani, 1923–1987). The composition is an artistic integration of Arabic calligraphy and landscape, divided into three horizontal registers. The upper section features the Basmala (Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim) rendered in black calligraphic script within a white, serrated border against a pale blue sky. Centred in the middle register is an array of stylised, multi-coloured flags in yellow, pink, green, and blue, appearing to wave in the wind above a mountainous form. The lower register is dominated by a large, dark brown landscape or rock formation upon which the Quranic phrase Nasrun Minallahi Wa Fathun Qareeb (Help from Allah and a near victory) is executed in bold white characters with black outlines. The foreground is rendered in a flat ochre tone. A black painted signature and inscription are located in the lower-left corner on the ochre ground. The signature is applied in Arabic script as Sadequain, followed by two additional lines of script. The canvas is stretched over a wooden frame and is unframed.
Approximately 91 x 47cm
