ALAN WALLWORK (1931-2019). A large Split Form Vase, Stoneware with Rubbed Glaze, Picked with Iron Staining. H: 26cm ; W: 20cm . Signed AW c.1980's Abbotsford Studio One of Britain’s most distinctive potters known for his sculptural work, according to his obituary in The Guardian, his work was important in the story of studio ceramics and art, a talent that should be judged with the wider artistic development in British art in the 1950’s and ‘60’s. The influence of nature on his work could also be seen in the early work of Paolozzi, Turnbull and Alan Reynolds. During his long career he found commercial success and supplied pieces to The Design Council and Heal’s. His Hand- worked Pieces with their Rubbed Glazes and Finishes and Distinct Natural Forms became his Signature Style.
