A 19th-century Ottoman metal thread embroidered silk portiere, possibly from Egypt or Syria. It takes the form of a mihrab, with ochre, cream, and brown ground adorned with intricate metal thread embroidery. The central inscription-filled cartouche is at the top, accompanied by roundels and chevrons with inscriptions. The spandrels feature delicate vegetal interlace, and the borders showcase continuous bands of inscription. Dimensions: 277 x 172 cm.
