This hand painted textile panel depicts a central female figure, identified as a Nayika or Shalabhanjika, in a profile pose. The figure is shown with her right arm raised, grasping the leafy branch of a stylized tree that arches over her head. She is dressed in traditional North Indian attire, including a dark choli, a vertically striped lehenga, and a gold-bordered translucent odhani draped over her head and body. The figure is adorned with various forms of traditional jewellery, including a nath, jhumkas, necklaces, armlets, and numerous bangles. Red pigment decoration is visible on her hands and feet, and she wears pointed-toe mojaris. The painting is executed on a dark textile ground using pigments and metallic gold-toned paint. The facial features, specifically the elongated almond-shaped eye and sharp profile, reflect characteristics of the Kishangarh school of painting. The composition is framed by a simple golden linear border.

Approximately 104 x 42cm

Condition report:

The textile shows visible signs of age and wear. There is significant fraying and some small losses to the fabric along the upper left edge. The entire panel displays prominent vertical and horizontal fold lines and general creasing throughout. The painted surface appears largely intact, though there is minor surface rubbing consistent with age. The edges of the fabric are unfinished.
