A circular, compressed globular porcelain box and cover, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The exterior of the domed lid and the base are painted with a continuous scene of boys at play within a garden landscape, a motif often referred to as the hundred boys theme. The figures are depicted in various active poses amongst garden fences, banana trees, and stylized clouds. The top of the lid features a central circular medallion containing two boys at play. The rims of both the lid and base are bordered with bands of ruyi-head scrolling cloud motifs. The base features a six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double ring reading Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi, translated as Made during the Chenghua reign of the Great Ming Dynasty.

H: Approximately 12cm

D: Approximately 17.6cm

Condition report:

The item appears to be in good overall condition. The underglaze blue is vibrant and the glaze has a smooth finish. There are no obvious chips, cracks, or significant restorations visible. Typical minor shelf wear and discolouration are present on the unglazed foot rim. The unglazed meeting rims of the lid and base show minor expected roughness from the manufacturing process.
