Lot 317: A CHINESE CARVED STONE RECUMBENT LION.
A carved Chinese figure depicting a recumbent lion resting upon a rectangular plinth. The animal is shown with its forelegs extended forward and hind legs tucked beneath the body, the head raised with mouth slightly open revealing stylised teeth. The face is carved with pronounced features including rounded eyes, flared nostrils, and a textured muzzle. The mane is rendered in flowing, layered strands cascading along the neck and shoulders, contrasting with the smoother modelling of the body. The tail curves along the rear of the figure, resting against the plinth.
H: Approximately 9cm
L: Approximately 12.5cm
Condition report:
The sculpture exhibits wear consistent with its age. There are scattered surface scratches and small nicks across the body and the integral base. Minor chips are visible along the sharp edges of the rectangular plinth and on the animal’s anatomy. Traces of white surface residue are present within the deeper recesses of the mane and the base. The stone retains a good overall colour and polish despite the minor surface abrasions.
