This archaic-style Chinese bronze socketed fitting is cast with complex openwork decoration, characteristic of ceremonial bronzes from the late Eastern Zhou (Warring States) or early Han periods. The piece features highly stylised mythical zoomorphic creatures, including a prominent bird with a hooked beak and crest, possibly a phoenix or fenghuang, intertwined with a dragon-like beast. Extending from one side of the central motif is a flat, flaring projection resembling the form of a ge or dagger-axe. The base consists of a hollow cylindrical socket with a moulded rim, intended for mounting onto a wooden shaft or pole.

L: Approximately 15.5cm

Condition report:

The object is in a good, stable condition. It possesses a deep, variegated patina with shades of dark olive-brown and charcoal-grey. No visible signs of structural repair or restoration are evident.
