A large dress ring featuring a circular yellow agate cabochon set within a silver mount. The translucent stone is decorated with hand-carved intaglio work. The central circular field contains fluid calligraphic characters in Arabic or Persian script, surrounded by a partitioned border featuring stylized foliate and floral motifs. The stone is secured in a plain bezel setting. The shoulders of the ring are split into an open-work Y-shape, tapering into a solid D-section band. The metal shows a dark grey surface patina consistent with oxidation.
Condition report:
The ring is in vintage condition. The metal surface exhibits heavy tarnishing and oxidation throughout (photo 1). The yellow agate stone shows minor surface abrasions and light scratches consistent with wear (photo 2). The intaglio carving remains deep and well-defined.
