Lot 287: A CHINESE GE-TYPE CRACKLE GLAZE CONG-FORM PORCELAIN VASE, KANGXI MARK.
A Chinese porcelain vase of cong form, featuring a square-sectioned body and a circular, flared neck. The piece is finished in a thick, cream-coloured Ge-type glaze with a dense "gold thread and iron wire" (jin si tie xian) crackle pattern, consisting of dark grey primary fissures and finer, brownish-gold secondary lines. The shoulders are stepped, rising to a square rim with a circular aperture. The two opposing sides are decorated with applied, moulded animal-head masks, each supporting a pendant ring handle. The base features a recessed square panel containing a six-character mark painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The mark is arranged in three vertical columns and reads "Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi".
H: Approximately 24.5cm
Condition report:
The vase is in good structural condition. A small firing flaw or minor chip is visible on the upper corner of the square neck rim (photo 5). There is visible staining and accumulated surface grime trapped within the crackle lines, particularly concentrated around the moulded animal-head handles and the base (photo 6 and 7). The unglazed foot rim shows darkening and surface wear consistent with age and handling (photo 6). The crackle pattern is a deliberate decorative feature of the glaze and does not represent structural damage.
