Lot 255: A CHINESE CELADON-GLAZED RELIEF-DECORATED DRAGON VASE WITH DEER-HEAD HANDLES.
A large porcelain vase of archaic hu form finished with a pale celadon or bean-green (douqing) glaze. The body is decorated in high relief with four five-clawed dragons positioned amidst stylized floral scrolls and foliage, set against a continuous ground of fine geometric fretwork. The neck is flanked by two handles modelled in the form of deer heads with branching antlers. The vessel is further embellished with several decorative bands, including a key-fret border at the rim and foot, a ruyi-head band around the shoulder, and a band of overlapping lotus petals above the base. The base features an impressed six-character seal mark in archaic seal script.
H: Approximately 27cm
Condition report:
The vase is in good overall condition. There is visible dark staining and residue at the points where the deer-head handles join the neck, which may indicate previous repair or professional restoration. The foot rim shows the characteristic unglazed white porcelain body with some minor shelf wear.
