An original Indian pen and ink drawing on paper, depicting a dynamic battle scene. The composition is centred on a large war elephant fitted with a decorated howdah, carrying a high-ranking figure and an attendant. A mahout is seated on the neck of the elephant. The scene captures an active engagement with a mounted warrior on horseback and various infantrymen carrying shields and swords. Further troops and elephants are lightly sketched in outline in the background. The work is executed with fine, precise monochrome linework, characteristic of the North Indian schools such as Rajasthan or the Punjab Hills, and is possibly a khaka or preparatory study.

Approximately 39.8 x 26.8cm

Condition report:

The paper support shows visible foxing and light staining consistent with age, primarily in the upper portion. Minor creasing and handling marks are evident. The frame is in good decorative condition with minor surface wear.
