A pair of Islamic-style chess or gaming pieces, carved from deep blue lapis lazuli and of tall rounded form. Each is surmounted by a pair of raised projections and decorated around the lower body with a band of stylised incised motifs, with further individual motifs to the sides. The stone displays characteristic variations of rich blue colour, one piece retaining extensive earthen deposits and surface encrustation.
