Lot 131: AN ISLAMIC INSCRIBED SILVER AND CARNELIAN AGATE SIGNET RING.
An Islamic signet ring featuring a translucent, burnt-orange carnelian agate cabochon stone. The stone is hand-engraved with an intaglio inscription in Arabic script reading w-allama Adama al-asmaa kullaha (And He taught Adam the names – all of them), a verse from the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:31. The central text is bordered by engraved scrolling foliage and small floral rosettes. The stone is secured within a multi-pronged silver cradle setting with a scalloped border. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with openwork circular pierced designs framed by beaded borders, tapering down to a plain band.
Condition report:
The carnelian stone shows light surface wear and minor micro-scratching consistent with age and use, but remains free from major chips or cracks. The engraving remains deep and legible. The silver mount displays a heavy, dark natural tarnish and patina, particularly within the recessed areas of the decorative metalwork. The band shows slight deformation from circularity.
