A Chinese Pale Celadon Jade Carving of a Monkey and Double Gourd.
A finely carved Chinese pale celadon jade pendant depicting a monkey climbing upon a naturalistically rendered double gourd vine. The stone of soft creamy-white tone with russet inclusions and natural darker speckling, the surface smoothly polished throughout.
The composition is formed as a twisting vine issuing large leaves and two bulbous gourds, one supporting the small monkey which grasps the stem while turning its head playfully to one side. The carving is executed in openwork, with fluid tendrils and rounded forms creating depth and movement.
H: Approximately 7.7cm
